Vice President Liu Guodong Led a Delegation Visited Germany

In order to broaden the international exchange and cooperation channels of
our university, and improve the international level of talent training, faculty
construction and scientific research, Vice President Liu Guodong led a delegation
to visit partner organizations and universities in Germany and carried out an
in-depth discussion on further deepening exchanges and promoting cooperation.
Directors of Academic Affairs Office, Scientific Research Management Department,
Personnel Department and International Affairs Department accompanied the visit.
The delegation first visited BSK Berlin Headquarters in Germany and received
a warm reception from Willi Bredow, the project director of BSK international
educational institutions in Europe, Sike Meier, the director of teaching material
research and Development Department, and, Anna Schulz the director of legal
affairs. BSK organized a video conference with Kai-Arne Fiedlerthe, the CEO of
the organization, who were performing official business abroad. Both sides made a
recall and conclusion on the achievement of teachers and students exchange and
other aspects since the partnerships had been built in 2017, after which they reached
a unanimous decision on carrying out more specific, planned, and persistent
cooperation in talent cultivation, teacher exchange, expert lecture, lab management,
scientific cooperation, amongst other aspects. VP Liu stated that the high
responsibility and proficiency of German BSK International Education Institute offered
great help to the teachers and students of HZU, enabling them smoothly finish the
exchange in Germany. With the purpose of elevating education internationalization,
he proposed that both sides should deepen exchange and make more cooperative
programs come true.
From June 12th to 13th, the delegation of HZU paid a visit to Degendorf University
of Applied Science and Technology located in Bavaria, and carried in-depth
discussion with Waldemar Berg, the vice president in charge of teaching and student
work, Anja Coenen, the director of China Education Exchange Program, and
Manuela Krawagana-Nobauer, International Academic Exchange Consultant.
President Waldemar Berg extended warm welcome to the delegation, and briefed
the university history, scale, departments setting, curriculum arrangement, education characteristics, international education, amongst other aspects in detail. He pointed
out that Degendorf University attaches great importance to application of teaching
and research, focuses on deepening the cooperation between schools and enterprises
and setting up majors based on local industrial structure and regional characteristics.
During the talent cultivation, whether it is in-class teaching, practical teaching or
thesis project selection, it emphasizes the combination with local economy and the
cultivation of applied personnel, serving local economy and promoting technological
innovation. At present, Degendorf University has carried out in-depth university-
enterprise collaborative education with more than 400 large, medium and
small-sized enterprises from region, home and abroad. He stressed that most of their
teachers have abundant industry and enterprise experience, which is the guarantee
for the implementation of the application-oriented education and the quality of
personnel training. Apart from that, in order to ensure the consistency of teaching
concept and quality, Degendorf University would organize training in teaching
methods and ethics for new-appointed teachers. Further, Degendorf University of
Applied Science and Technology has built up collaborative partnerships with 170
universities in 54countries. Now there are about 1500 international students,
accounting for about 20% of the total number of students.
VP Liu expressed thanks to the warm reception from Degendorf University of Applied
Science and Technology, and briefed current situation of Huizhou City and Huizhou
University. He stated that the school running and developing of HZU lay stress on
locality, application and internationalization, which is similar to Degendorf University
of Applied Science and Technology. At present, HZU is in the critical period of
application-oriented transformation. Degendorf University has accumulated rich
experience in teaching, faculty management, process control, university-enterprise
collaboration and other aspects, which are good examples for HZU to learn from.
In 2018, HZU sent 10 teachers to Degendorf University to carry out deep exchange
learning, which played a positive role in shifting teaching concepts, promoting
awareness, stimulating school development and elevating the quality of applied
talent cultivation. At the forum, combined with their actual work, administrators
of Academic Affairs Office, Scientific Research Management Department, Personnel
Department and International Affairs Department also held deep discussions with
German representatives. The delegation also visited the classroom, laboratory in
Degendorf University.
This visit would not only help us deepen the communication between HZU and
German universities, but also further deepen our understanding and
comprehending in German “double dual” education system, applied talent cultivation
mode, faculty management, in-depth university-enterprise integration, which will
further promote internationalization of HZU.
