Huizhou University's 80th Anniversary Music-Themed

Youth League Lecture Held

Updated:01 May 2026

On the evening of April 29, the Eighty Years of Legacy · Youth Relay – A Music-Themed

Youth League Lecture Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Huizhou University and

the 2026 May 4th Commendation Ceremony took place at the Conference Hall of

Goose City. The event, through a deep integration of art and ideological-political

education, combined university history education, role-model guidance, and

mission commitment, presenting a vivid and profound Grand Ideological-Political

Lesson to over 500 faculty and students. University Party Secretary Peng Yonghong,

Vice Presidents Liu Guodong and Wei Xiaohui attended the event and presented

awards to outstanding collectives and individuals.

Centered on the theme of youth relay and following the historical lineage of the

university, the music-themed lecture was divided into a prologue, four chapters,

and an epilogue. Through video clips, alumni narratives, situational performances,

golden quotes, and group singing, it vividly recreated the eighty-year journey of

Huizhou University – from its predecessor, Guangdong Provincial Huizhou Normal

School, to its current development into a high-level applied university. It profoundly

illustrated the sense of responsibility of generations of Huizhou University youth,

who have breathed with the times and shared the destiny of the nation.

In the first chapter, Guo Ruifang and Zeng Weina, alumnae from the class of 1978,

shared their story of voluntarily choosing to teach in mountainous areas after

graduation. Guo Ruifang performed Ode to the Motherland on the piano, with a

melodious and resolute tone. Zeng Weina recalled the days when she taught children

to dance on the threshing ground. Together, they recited their pledge from back then:

We want the children in the mountains to know that the world is much bigger than

just mountains! Through their simple actions, they embodied the youthful choice of

going where the motherland needs us most. The audience then joined in a chorus of

Young Friends Get Together, and the cross-generational dialogue between white-haired

alumni and young students moved everyone present.

In the second chapter, Zheng Wangji, an alumnus from the class of 1992 and a rural

teacher in Lufeng, has been rooted in his hometown’s education for 34 years.

Holding a yellowed education notebook, he emotionally said: I am like a tree – my roots

are here, my branches stretch far away, but my body has never left the soil. He has

incorporated Hakka Lei cha and Lufeng shadow puppetry into his school-based

curriculum, using cultural Chinese to awaken students’ local cultural pride, and has

led many young teachers to become teaching backbone. Education is not a solo

performance; it is a choir singing together. His story vividly shows the dedication

and responsibility of grassroots educators in the new era.

In the third chapter, three young alumni illustrated the meaning of pioneering a path

in different ways. Xiao Huiwen, class of 2014, returned to the remote mountains of

Jiangxi and spent nine years teaching more than 600 children how to make and play

bamboo flutes, turning the sound of the flute into a starting point for mountain

children to reach the world. Lin Yue, class of 2015, transitioned from being the head

of the university art troupe to founding a psychological counseling agency, using blank

paper and a few brushes to build a bridge to the soul. Guo Jianhui, class of 2021, has

twice aided Tibet and has been rooted in the snowy plateau for five years, leaving his

footprints in the place closest to the sky. Together, they proclaimed the youth oath of

two-way endeavor, forging ahead on a new path. The audience then sang Azalea,

infusing the song with a sense of commitment to family and country.

In the fourth chapter, Zhang Yingying, a member of the first cohort of master’s

graduates from Huizhou University, together with Chen Kailian and Yang Xiaolong,

recipients of the Dignity Medal, shared their hands-on stories in education frontlines,

scientific research, and industry service. They led the recitation of the Youth Manifesto,

and the faculty and students present shouted Dignity leads to far-reaching goals; unity

of knowledge and action! Afterwards, everyone sang Stars and Sea, demonstrating the

uplifted stance of Huizhou University youth in the new era as they integrate personal aspirations into the nation’s development.

In the epilogue, freshman representatives slowly opened the time capsule, and

successive generations of alumni and youth representatives read out their youth

pledges. Eighty years of torch-passing – this is our relay. Rest assured, dear alma mater,

the legacy will be carried forward by us. Rest assured, dear Party, the future will be

shouldered by us! All faculty and students stood up, waving national flags and singing

My Motherland and I, bringing the event to its climax.

This music-themed Youth League lecture is an important part of Huizhou University’s

80th anniversary celebrations, and also an innovative practice of the university’s effort

to advance the Grand Ideological-Political Lesson framework and explore an art +

ideological-political education model. Through alumni’s personal narratives, historical

footage, and classic songs, the red heritage, spirit of dedication, and strength of

endeavor within the university’s history are transformed into vivid, tangible, and

inheritable educational materials.

During the lecture, the May 4th Commendation and Award Ceremony was also held.

University leaders presented awards to outstanding collectives and individuals such as

the May 4th Red Flag Youth League Committee and May 4th Red Flag Youth League

Branch, inspiring young League members to emulate their examples and strive forward

on the new journey of national rejuvenation.

Faculty and students in attendance expressed that this warm, deep, and powerful

music-themed Youth League lecture made them deeply appreciate the contemporary

meaning of the university motto Dignity, Discernment, Truth-seeking and Pragmatism,

and strengthened their confidence and resolve to follow the Party. Going forward,

taking the 80th anniversary as a new starting point, the university will fully implement

the fundamental task of fostering virtue and nurturing talents, guiding the youth to

resolutely take the baton of history and contribute their youthful strength to the

great cause of building a strong nation and achieving national rejuvenation.
