University Held a Series of Themed Educational 

Activities for Our Festivals·Qingming Festival

To carry forward the fine traditional Chinese culture and promote core socialist values, 

on the morning of April 3, our university solemnly held a series of themed educational 

activities for Our Festivals · Qingming Festival 2026 at the Dongjiang Column Memorial 

Hall (Huizhou). Jointly organized by the Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall (Huizhou) 

and our university, the event was themed Inherit the Martyrs' Aspirations, Jointly Build 

a Strong China Dream. Leaders from the Publicity and United Front Work Department, 

Student Affairs Department, University Youth League Committee, University Labor 

Union, School of Political Science and Law, and student representatives attended the 

event.

The event kicked off with a solemn flag-raising ceremony and the singing of the 

national anthem.

The person in charge of the Publicity and United Front Work Department noted in his 

speech that Qingming Festival carries the cultural root of the Chinese nation of 

honoring the deceased and cherishing the memory of ancestors, and embodies the 

patriotism of revolutionary martyrs who risked their lives. As the mainstay of resistance 

against Japanese aggression in South China, the Dongjiang Column has forged a 

spiritual monument with their lives, which serves as an inexhaustible driving force for 

us to forge ahead. He urged teachers and students to keep in mind General Secretary 

Xi Jinping's earnest exhortation to always remember the heroic deeds of martyrs and 

carry forward their heroic spirit from generation to generation, take martyrs as a mirror 

to strengthen the foundation of faith, take traditions as the root to cultivate new trends 

of the times, take struggle as the oar to bravely undertake the mission of rejuvenation, 

turn the memory of martyrs into concrete actions of loving the Party and the country 

and studying diligently, integrate personal ideals into the great journey of building a 

strong country and national rejuvenation, and strive to grow into new-era young people 

with ideals, courage, perseverance and willingness to work hard.

Huang Kenan, descendant of Huang Deming and Xu Qiyun, revolutionary fighters of 

the Dongjiang Column, affectionately recounted the heroic deeds of his ancestors who 

upheld faith and fearlessly sacrificed themselves in the war years. From fighting across 

the Dongjiang River to deterring southern Guangdong, the revolutionary ancestors 

forged the Dongjiang Column Spirit of firm faith, fearlessness of sacrifice, perseverance 

and courage to take responsibility with blood and life, which deeply moved all teachers 

and students present and made them profoundly realize the heavy weight behind 

peaceful life.

On the territory of Lingnan, there is a sharp sword... During the event, all participants 

recited the red poem Heroic Sword — Written for the Dongjiang Column in unison. 

The sonorous verses echoed in front of the memorial hall, expressing the infinite 

memory and high respect of the new-era youth for revolutionary martyrs.

During the event, teachers and students walked into the Dongjiang Column Memorial 

Hall and, guided by the commentator, reviewed the glorious course of the Dongjiang 

Column from its establishment to the victory of the War of Resistance against 

Japanese Aggression. Precious cultural relics, historical photos and scene restorations 

allowed everyone to touch the marks of history and feel the power of faith.

Leaving the exhibition hall, a unique ideological and political class under Luofu 

Mountain was held on the Party Building Path of Luofu Mountain. Following the 

footsteps of revolutionary ancestors, teachers and students listened while walking, 

stopped to discuss from time to time, listened to red stories among green mountains 

and clear waters, and felt the revolutionary spirit in the embrace of nature. This 

immersive on-site teaching made history tangible and perceptible. From indoor to 

outdoor, from listening to experience, red education has been deeply rooted in 

people's hearts in a subtle way. Everyone expressed that they would turn their 

respect for martyrs into motivation to forge ahead, integrate red genes into their 

blood, and practice the ambition of building a strong country with practical actions.

In addition, during the Qingming Festival, the university simultaneously launched 

an online memorial activity on the Yiban platform. Teachers and students expressed 

their memory and respect for revolutionary martyrs online by offering flowers, 

lighting candles and leaving messages. With a touch of the screen, their wishes were 

instantly connected; online and offline activities resonated at the same frequency, 

converging into a warm stream of remembrance. Meanwhile, as a warm part of the 

series of activities, on the afternoon of April 1, the folk art and aesthetic education 

workshop experience activity of Fragrant Wormwood, Cherishing Memory in 

Spring — making green rice balls was held at the Ferry Book Bar of the library.

As the Qingming Festival brings drizzling rain, Everywhere in the spring city flies 

flying flowers... While waiting, poetry recitation and Feihua Ling (a traditional 

Chinese poetry game) were carried out quietly. Classic verses circulated in the book 

bar, and teachers and students realized the dual implications of Qingming Festival: 

honoring ancestors and embracing spring in poetic atmosphere.

It is reported that since 2017, the university has continuously built the educational 

brand of Our Festivals, focusing on traditional festivals such as Qingming, Dragon 

Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival and Double Ninth Festival, exploring immersive 

and experiential education paths, covering more than 100,000 teachers and students 

in total. The ideological and political class under Luofu Mountain this time is a vivid 

practice of this education system, as well as a continuous exploration of integrating 

patriotism education into daily life.

In the future, the university will continue to dig deep into local red resources, innovate 

carriers of ideological and political education, promote the in-depth integration of 

red culture and campus culture, guide young students to strengthen their ideals and 

beliefs by looking back at history, temper their abilities through practical work, strive 

to grow into new-era talents worthy of the important task of national rejuvenation, 

and contribute more to Guangdong's efforts to take the lead in promoting the 

construction of Chinese-style modernization.
